CIAT announce support for Designing Buildings Wiki

On 6 June 2017, the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) confirmed it has become a sponsor of Designing Buildings Wiki, the construction industry knowledge base.

This relationship will help bridge the gap between theory and practice, adding the practical knowledge of architectural technologists to the property, design and construction professionals already supporting the site. CIAT will be publishing key resources on Designing Buildings Wiki and will encourage its members to become contributors to the ever-growing resource.

The announcement comes during a landmark period for Designing Buildings Wiki. It has recently published its 5,000th article, and has, for the first time, exceeded three million users a year. This makes it one of the most popular websites in the construction industry and one of the largest knowledge resources.

The aim of Designing Buildings Wiki is to put construction industry knowledge in one place and make it available for free. It is an industry-wide, collaborative resource used by all disciplines, and including articles covering the planning, design, construction and operation of built assets.

It is supported by; The Institution of Civil Engineers, The Chartered Institute of Building, BRE, BSRIA, The Institute of Historic Buildings Conservation, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, U and I Group PLC, and now the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.

It was founded in 2012 by project manager David Trench CBE FCIOB , architect Dr Gregor Harvie, construction law solicitor Richard Winward LLB FCIArb FCInst CES and chartered banker and finance director Martin Cantor.

The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) is the lead qualifying body for Architectural Technology and represents those practising and studying within the discipline.

Its objectives are:

To promote the science and practice of architectural technology.
To facilitate the development and integration of technology into architecture and the wider construction industry.
To uphold and advance the standards of education, competence, practice and conduct of members.
